Haverhill members, Sharon Mattheus (23) and Kirsty Irons (27) entered the R & A Coronation Foursomes this year. They started well, qualifying first at club level in May with 39 points. This success took them on to the Regional Finals which were played at Bishops Stortford on 6th August and winning this, too, gave them the chance to travel to St Andrews for the Grand Final on 9th September. There they will compete in a select field of just sixteen pairs, a far cry from the Regional Finals where there were ninety pairs and the ladies had to wait for five hours to hear that they had won on ‘countback’ with a wonderful score of 42 points.
What excitement! We wish them all the luck in September and hope they have a marvellous time.
