The old adage of “Button to chin, till May be in, cast not a clout till May be out” was certainly true of today.  Copious layers, woolly hats, mitts and hand warmers were the order of the day and again playing conditions were tricky.

The morning session saw 16 players from yesterday’s 36 hole Stroke Play lined up to play an 18 hole match play format, with Alice Barlow (Bury St Edmunds) and Clare Charlwood (Bury St Edmunds) first off the tee.

Those spectators brave enough to face the elements were treated to some exhibition quality golf, with the three juniors (Chloe Dixon, Sophie Kubitzek and Jasmine Points) again ably demonstrating that their golfing futures are bright.

The afternoon session saw 8 players from 4 clubs (Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, Felixstowe Ferry and Fynn Valley) battle it out resulting in the top four seeded players go through to tomorrow’s semi-final with Alice Barlow and Sophie Kubitzek (Bury St Edmunds) teeing off at 8.30am, followed by Amanda Norman and Abbie Symonds at 8.40 am.  The final will take place at 1pm.

For those who like statistics, yesterday saw an incredible 39 birdies over the 36 hole Stroke Play, with Amanda Norman (Felixstowe Ferry) responsible for 8 of those (6 in the first 18 holes!), closely followed by Alice Barlow (Bury St Edmunds) with 6.

Looking forward to tomorrow with excitement and some trepidation as the weather looks as if it might be equally unkind.
