Could this be the First Hole in one in 2023

Issy McDonald,14 from Bungay gets her first ace!

Bungay and Waveney Valley GC, Suffolk,11.30am 1st January 2023  — Was the location and time for what we think could be the nation’s first hole in one of the New Year.

The Event was the “Captain’s Drive in Texas Scramble” at the club, a traditional News Years Day event, open to ALL members .

The amazing feat was achieved by 14-year-old, Issy McDonald on the 12th hole.

Using a 5 iron into a tricky cross wind over the valley, Issy bagged her first ace, whilst partnering her Dad, James.

Issy was delighted when asked to describe the moment – “I knew it was close, the ball hovered on the edge of the hole for which seemed like an eternity, I didn’t realise it had gone in until other golfers close by started celebrating”

“It’s brilliant for Issy to get a hole in one so soon into her golfing journey, it puts her level with me now, it only took me 30 years!” joked Issy’s Dad

Issy’s current handicap is 13.8 and she has been playing since she was 8 years old, she has developed into a promising golfer under the supervision of the Club Professional, Chris Potter and his amazing team who put in countless hours into the clubs junior section, there are a number of very talented juniors to watch out for!

In 2022 Issy was selected to be part of the Suffolk Girls development squad and hopes to one day represent at County level.

So could Issy be the first to celebrate a hole in one in 2023 nationally or maybe just England, you tell us!
