The Suffolk Girls County Championship is the premier event in the junior calendar with an 18 Hole Medal for handicaps of 18 and below and holder Georgia Parker has relinquished her title to Juliette Coffey (Woodbridge GC) who emerged with the best gross score of 82.

Juliette was in sparkling form and eagled the Par 4  3rd hole with a breath-taking drive of 280+ yards, leaving a 4 foot put to hole out in 2.  Those who were privileged to witness this piece of magic were left awe inspired.

Mary Cuthbert (Thorpeness) and Chloe Dixon (Ufford Park) both hit 85 with Mary coming runner-up on countback.

Melissa Coffey Best Nett 2021

The Coffey family will be celebrating this evening as Melissa Coffey (Woodbridge) took the honour with the best nett score of 71, 4 ahead of Sophie Kubitzek (Bury St Edmunds) who shot a nett of 75.

As Stroke play Champion Juliette Coffey  will qualify to represent Suffolk in the English Girls County Champion of Champions event which will be held on 4th  September at Woodhall Spa Golf Club.

The top 8 in the county scratch results qualify for the Suffolk Girls Matchplay to be played over the summer months and they are:

Juliette Coffey (Woodbridge); Natasha Gregory (Ipswich); Georgia Parker (BSE); Sophie Kubitzek (BSE); Chloe Dixon (Ufford Park); Melissa Coffey (Woodbridge); Mary Cuthbert (Thorpeness); Jasmine Points (BSE)

In addition to the scratch competition, a Stableford was also played by those with handicaps in the range of 19-36 and there were 6 players competing fiercely for the honour with only 3 points separating the first 5 places.

Rebekah Meekings (Stowmarket) came first with 30 points winning on countback from Talia Brewer (Felixstowe Ferry).

Thanks were given by Jo Woodward (President SLGA) to Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club for hosting the competition and for the two referees who volunteered their time for the day. All in all, a very enjoyable event and the future for ladies golf in Suffolk is certainly looking brighter if the very talented young ladies playing today is anything to go by.
