Dear Affiliated Lady Members,

We hope this letter finds you well and beginning to enjoy your golf again. What an incredibly difficult and unprecedented time this has been for us all.

Slightly in advance of England Golf guidance the Association took the very difficult decision to cancel all County competition golf for 2020.

As we resume elements of normal life we are now planning to re-instate County competitive golf for 2021.  We hope that all of us will continue adhering to the Government guidance so we will be in a position to carry out our plans.

The Suffolk Ladies County Golf Association (SLCGA) Governing Body Committee recently met via Zoom and that is a word that was not heard of six months ago!

We summarise the key points of this meeting here so that everyone will be in the loop.

Inter-Club Team Competitions

Entrance fees for the inter-club competitions will carry over to 2021, unless your club decides not to take part in which case the entry fee will be reimbursed. Should the same clubs enter the Stearn, Haskell, Cranworth or Jubilee as they did in 2020, the draws will remain the same.  Where they differ, a re-draw will be made.  The Weston will remain as drawn this year.

County Championships, Division Meetings, Foursomes Meetings

Individual entrance fees for 2020 competitions have now been reimbursed.

The County Championships will be separated in 2021 for Seniors Championships (venue TBA) and Main Championships (venue Felixstowe) to allow more ladies to participate.

The venues for the 2021 Division meetings are:

Four – Kingfisher                        Three – Seckford

Two – Brett Vale                        One – Rookery Park

The venues for the Foursomes 2021 meetings are:

Centenary – Haverhill                         Coronation – Hintlesham

These competitions are an opportunity for our Members to play different courses cost effectively, to meet new golfing friends and enjoy competitive golf around the county. A warm welcome awaits everyone who enters and we hope there will be enthusiastic support for County golf in 2021.

Details and entry forms for all 2021 competitions will be on the SLCGA website from January. Although we would encourage digital entry and competition fee payment we do recognise that many prefer the blue books, so these will be supplied to Clubs as an alternative.

Suffolk Golf Day

Entry for next year’s Suffolk Golf Day, always one of our most popular occasions, will now open on April 1st 2021.

Website

Our website has been fully updated and Clubs have had the opportunity to update their information which appears on the club page.

County Teams and Coaching

Some great plans had been made for our representative teams, the 1st Team, the reinstated 2nd Team, the Senior and Junior Teams. Sadly, these were necessarily put on hold but they will be rolled out again for the 2021 season. Our highly successful first team coach Kevin Lovelock has recently retired from this position. We thank him for his valuable contribution over the last few years including his help to the 1st Team who made the County Championship Finals in 2017. In his place SLCGA has appointed Andrew Robinson the Head PGA Professional at Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club. Andrew brings a wealth of experience and fresh enthusiasm to County Ladies Golf. We know he will be a valuable addition to our organisation.

We are keeping a close eye on the remainder of 2020 and if there is an opportunity for us to come together and safely play some sort of competitive golf we will be looking to get this arranged.

In the meantime please enjoy your golf and stay safe.
