Jo Miller and Lynne Barrett (Hintlesham) Haskell Finalist with Vicki Hunt

Jo Miller and Lynne Barrett (Hintlesham) Haskell Finalist with Vicki Hunt

Bury St Edmunds and Hintlesham contested the Haskell trophy, with Alice Barlow and Jasmine Points representing BSE and Jo Miller and Lynne Barrett Hintlesham. Hintlesham were two up at lunchtime. The afternoon play saw BSE fighting back, and eventually winning 3 & 2. Infact, they birdied the last four holes played!

The Stearn trophy was also fiercely contested, between Halesworth, trophy holders, and Gorleston. Halesworth led 2 – 1 after the morning play. The afternoon saw the lead constantly changing, and after 36 holes the match was all square. In the pouring rain and fading light, Gorleston won the first play off hole. Sport can be very cruel and either side could have taken the spoils, but very well done Gorleston.

Halesworth Stearn Finalists

Both the Haskell and Stearn finals showed just how terrific foursomes golf can be.

Very many thanks to Woodbridge GC for their kindness and hospitality. The course, as always, provided an excellent golfing challenge.

Thanks also to Sue Lockwood and Nicki McMahon for their time and refereeing expertise .

As always my gratitude to the SLCGA for their support, especially to county secretary Di Hegerty and president, Vicki Hunt.
