Hertfordshire too strong for Suffolk

Suffolk 0 Hertfordshire 6
The girls played with great spirit and kept fighting against a very tough opposition, mostly needing birdies to win holes; with the highest handicapper in the Hertfordshire squad being 6. Jo Woodward, County President started the girls off for their final home match of the event.

Rio Everitt got off to a good start with birdies at the 3rd and 7th, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to keep her opponent at bay, as she reached the 9th hole 2 down, eventually losing 4&3.

Juliette Coffey was 3 down through 9, and holed a 15 foot birdie putt on the 12th hole, but did well to hold on to the 2 handicapper from Hertfordshire. Eventually losing 5&4.

Melissa Coffey holed a 15 foot putt on the 12th hole, to keep her match going, but couldn’t match her opponents par, on the par 3 13th, losing 7&5.

Laura Eaden holed a 20 foot putt at the 14th hole, but it wasn’t enough to stop her opponent taking the match 5&3.

Chloe Dixon put up a good fight with Connie Packer, after being 1 down through 5 holes, she managed to claw her way back into contention, winning the 190 yard 9th hole with a 20 foot birdie putt to go 1up. However, her opponent holed many putts on the back 9 and eventually claimed another point for Hertfordshire, winning 3&2.

The girls played fantastic golf all week, and this match was not any different.

Juliette Coffey was out first for Suffolk, her highlights included hitting her second shot blind over the trees onto the green and two putts was enough to half the hole at 8. She then proceeded to birdie the 11th hole. She was 3 down standing on the 14th tee, and put up a great fight winning 2 holes on the bounce, and halving the 16th to go up the 17th just 1 down. She lost 2 & 1. Rio Everitt birdied the 3rd hole after a fantastic 120 yard shot into 2 feet for the win. She also holed a 20 foot putt on the 14th to halve the hole, however she was just short teeing off the 18th 1 down, eventually finishing 2 down.

The last four matches were all up through 9 holes, with Chloe Dixon playing her 2nd shot on 10 to 2feet to go 2 up and Melissa Coffey hitting a fantastic bunker shot on the 6th hole to 3feet, proceeding to go 5up through 9. Sophie Kubitzek was 4 up, and Natasha Gregory was 3 up through 9. All four were too strong for their opponents. Well done to Melissa Coffey for having the biggest win all week, 7&5!

Congratulations to Hertfordshire on retaining their title, Bedfordshire County Ladies Golf for running a fantastic event, and Bedfordshire Golf Club for hosting. Thank you to all spectators who gave up their time to come and support Suffolk, and a big thank you to parents for their continued support and encouragement to their girls. The future is bright, I wish you all the best.
