East Region Senior Women’s League
(6 singles matches played off scratch)

Suffolk Seniors v Cambs & Hunts Seniors
21 August ’23
at Woodbridge Golf club

Suffolk Senior Ladies are sponsored by Sandlings Properties

This was our first East Region Senior Women’s League match and what a fantastic day!  The weather was perfect, warm but not too hot and a slight breeze, the course was at its best and the company excellent!  The matches were played in a competitive but very friendly spirit, as it should be, and the day was enjoyed by all.  Some matches were nip and tuck and many a time it went down to who holed the putt; many of us found the greens tricky to read even though they were rolling beautifully.  Well played the team; a good win against some stern competition.

Many thanks to Woodbridge GC for hosting us; fantastic course, excellent food and a great welcome.

Many thanks too to our sponsor, Sandlings Properties.

Suffolk Seniors Get-Together @ Ipswich Golf Club

Thursday 16 March 2023

Suffolk Senior Ladies are sponsored by Sandlings Properties

At the start of the week, playing any golf on the Thursday look like a definite non-starter – wind and rain were forecast.  So it was with some trepidation that I watched the forecast on Wednesday evening.  It looked hopeful but you never know!!  All fears were unfounded as the day proved to be mild, a bit windy but most importantly dry!!!  Even the sun made an appearance for a while!

More than 20 players assembled at Ipswich Golf Club for coffee and bacon rolls and we headed out on the course for some fun but competitive golf!  The course had survived the weather that had been thrown at it over the last week and, even though it was also ‘Renovation Week’, the playing surfaces were good.

In 3s and 4s, all enjoyed playing their round with ladies from other clubs.  We played a 4BBB format with the 2 best scores counting on each hole and all 4 scores to count on the 18th.  The two groups of 3 were given the scores from a player in another group, chosen at random, to add into the mix.  Congratulations to Lynne Barrett, Judith Bedwell, Sharon Davey and Jura Davies who came in with a magnificent 88 points, closely followed by Liz Bezance, Sarah Gotts, Kristina Matthews and Linda Ryan who had 86 points.  Debbie Anthistle, Jude Hanner and Lucy Sadler came next with 79 points on count back from Wendy Flack, Vicki Hunt, Viv Leech and Gillian Smith.

Many thanks must go to Ipswich Golf Club for allowing us to host this event at the club and to the green keepers for getting the course into such good shape for the time of year and to the catering – the cake was much needed before heading home!

Please support the seniors events.

East Region Seniors Women’s League

This has been the inaugural year and began with Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk with Cambs & Hunts joining the league during the season.  It is hoped that Bedfordshire will also join the league in 2023.

The matches were keenly contested but always in a very friendly but competitive atmosphere.  Congratulations to Hertfordshire who came out top this year with Essex and Suffolk following closely behind.
