Suffolk Seniors v Hertfordshire Seniors at Welwyn Garden City GC

4 September ’23

Suffolk Senior Ladies are sponsored by Sandlings Properties.

We arrived at Welwyn GC in glorious sunshine with a slight breeze, the day promising to be hot!  We had a fabulous match with all the games going to either the last hole or the last 2 holes and were ‘nip and tuck’ all the way.  The course proved tricky; tree-lined, undulating and small greens all made for a challenging round especially when we hadn’t played there before.  It all came down to the last match!  We were 3 – 2 up and Tessa arrived at the 18th tee one down.  Unbeknownst to her (fortunately probably!) she needed to win the 18th – a Par 3 in order for Suffolk to win the match!  She had a beautiful shot onto the green, above the hole 15/20 feet away.  Herts Seniors Captain Lindsey also had a great shot just short of the green in the semi-rough.  Lindsey chipped close so she was on for an almost certain par.  BUT …… Tessa holed her putt for the birdie to win the hole and halve her match!!!!!

Congratulations to the team, an excellent effort and result all round.  Many thanks to Hertfordshire and Welwyn Garden City GC for hosting us; our match, as always, was played in a very competitive but friendly spirit and much enjoyed by all.
