Rules

  • A team of 6 players.
  • Each player must have reached 50 years of age on the 1 January of the competition year.
  • Players must have a handicap index of 14.0 or below. (A player whose handicap has increased above 14.0 is permitted to play in later matches PROVIDED that she has already played a match in this competition in the current year.)
  • Players must have a minimum of 5 valid competition cards for their handicap records in a rolling year on the date when the match is played. Failure will mean disqualification of the pair and 9 holes up will be awarded to the other team.
  • Each club may only enter one team.
  • If a club is unable to field a team because they do not have enough qualifying players, players from 2 or 3 different clubs may join together to form a team. At the time of entry into the competition, they MUST nominate one of their clubs as their ‘home’ club where they will play their home matches for that year and state which clubs are involved in the amalgamation.
  • A player may not play for more than one team.
  • A player may not play for a ‘mixed club’ team if any club of which they are a member has entered a whole team into the competition.

Format

  1. Each match will consist of 3 games played over 18 holes played off scratch – halves are allowed.
  2. Hambro scoring. (Each game is played over all 18 holes and the total number of holes won/lost from each game are added together.) The team with the most holes up are the winners of the match. Matches may be halved.
  3. Holes 1 to 6 will be played as 4 Ball Better Ball, holes 7 to 12 will be played as Greensomes and holes 13 to 18 will be played as Foursomes.
  4. In the event of Course closure necessitating the abandonment of the match, the result shall stand at the score if all the games have completed at least 9 holes.
  5. SCORING: – The overall winner of the match will be given 2 points, 1 point to each team for a halved match and no points for a loss. – At the end of the season, in the event of a tie on match points, the winner will be determined by the total number of holes up in each match added together. If the result is still equal then the winner of the league will be determined by a play-off between one pair from each club over 18 holes, in the same format as the competition, at a time determined by the SLCGA.
  6. Each captain will arrange their own fixtures. ‘Home’ clubs must offer at least 3 dates to their opponents which should include a weekend as well as a weekday and these should not be in the same week (for the purposes of this competition, a bank holiday will be deemed as a ‘weekend’ date).
